What you should know before backing a student
Your payment is processed by Stripe and sent directly to the student's (or guardian's) connected Stripe account. BackThis never holds, controls, or has access to backed funds. A 5% platform fee is deducted automatically. Stripe's standard processing fees (approximately 2.9% + 30¢) also apply.
You can back a student with a one-time amount or set up recurring monthly backing. Monthly backing is charged automatically each month until you cancel. You can cancel anytime using the manage link in your receipt email — no questions asked. Cancellation stops future charges but does not refund previous months.
You may optionally provide your name, email address, and a message. Your name and backing amount are displayed on the student's page unless you choose to back anonymously. If you provide an email, you will receive a receipt for each backing.
Backing made through BackThis is a personal gift to an individual student and is generally not tax-deductible. BackThis is not a registered charity or 501(c)(3) organization. Consult a tax professional for advice about your specific situation.
You will receive an email receipt for every backing (including each monthly renewal) if you provide an email address.
Students agree to use backing for education-related expenses as described on their page, organized by academic terms. BackThis does not guarantee or monitor how backing is ultimately used. For students under 18, a parent or guardian is responsible for managing the funds.

Individual backings are capped at $50,000 per transaction.
