BackThis is a technology platform that connects backers with students seeking backing for education. Payments are processed by Stripe and sent directly to the student's (or guardian's) connected Stripe account. BackThis does not hold or control funds at any point.
If you believe a one-time backing was made in error, was unauthorized, or you have concerns about a student's page, please contact us at hello@backth.is. Students and guardians also have the ability to issue refunds through their Stripe Express dashboard.
You may cancel your recurring backing at any time using the manage link in your receipt email or by contacting us at hello@backth.is. Cancellation stops future charges but does not automatically refund previous months. If you believe a recurring charge was made in error after cancellation, contact us and we will investigate.
If you are unable to resolve a refund with the student or guardian, you may contact your bank or credit card provider to initiate a dispute. Stripe handles all payment disputes according to card network rules.
The 5% BackThis platform fee is non-refundable, as it covers processing costs incurred at the time of the transaction. Stripe's processing fees (approximately 2.9% + 30¢) are also non-refundable per Stripe's policy. This means that for a refunded backing, the total non-recoverable fees are approximately 7.9% + 30¢ of the original amount.
